The OpportUNITY plan has been led by a community leadership roundtable and informed by the 2014 and 2015 OpportUNITY summits, 16 months of research, and several priority workgroups focused on 4 distinct priorities. This effort aligns with our community goal to “Increase the percentage of central Iowans who are financially self-sufficient from 64.7% (2014) to 75% by 2020” - reducing poverty by 10% and increase opportunities for 20,000 central Iowans.
The following priorities, key to reducing poverty in central Iowa, include:
- Education and Employment Readiness
- Housing, Homelessness and Transportation
- Change: Place Based, System and Individual
- Food Insecurity
