Latinos Needed for Graduation Walk

Gear Up for Graduation:
Graduation Walk is Saturday, August 27

Latinos are highly encouraged to volunteer in the Graduation Walk as many Latino students do not graduate High School. Please email: to volunteer on behalf of our community.  Your name will be provided to DMPS for registration.

The eighth annual Graduation Walk hosted by Des Moines Public Schools and United Way of Central Iowa and sponsored by Wells Fargo is expanding to focus not only on high schoolers behind on credits, but also high school and middle school students with high rates of absenteeism or who are struggling academically. In one Saturday morning, you can help a young person make the biggest decision of his or her life: to attend school and graduate.

As a Graduation Walk volunteer, you'll be paired with a Des Moines Public Schools staff member to visit the homes of students at risk of dropping out of school. You’ll connect personally with the student and their family, share powerful information about career outcomes for dropouts and help return them to the path that leads to graduation. A small commitment on your part can make a difference and help transform the lives of students.

Volunteers signing up as door-to-door walkers must attend an orientation offered in August to prepare for the home visits. During the online registration process, you will be prompted to sign up for an orientation date. We hope you will join us on August 27.
