Drake Summer Symposium for 8th-12th graders

8th -12th Students of Color

Drake’s Summer Symposium serves high school students of color that would like to hone their skills and habits to succeed in college and advanced coursework. There are fifty seats available and a $100 stipend offered for the week to 8th-12th graders. 


Six sessions will be available to participants that will be lead by Drake and DMPS students, including


  • Building a Foundation for Success:  How to Embrace Strengths and Learn from Weaknesses
  • Your Learning Preferences:  How to Choose Courses and a Career
  • Organization and Motivation:  Fine-tuning Time-management and Decision Making to Improve Personal Responsibility
  • How Memory Works In and Outside of Class:  How to Improve Note-taking and Study Skills to Perform Better on Exams
  • Academic and Career Planning:  Connecting to Your Future
  • Overcoming Stereotype Threat
